In this guide, I will explain how to remove the standard stereo from a Land Rover Freelander 2 – Pre facelift (2007-). The pictures featured in this guide are used as a base guide, where your trim may differ slightly, but the removal of panels and trims will be same throughout the model range.
Before We Begin
Before you start work on your car, make sure you have the same stereo as shown below, and also the tools listed on hand, this will save a lot of time, and will confirm a completed outcome when attempting this guide. I cannot be found responsable for any damage done, or any other issues which arrise from following this guide. This is attempted at your own risk.
The Stereo
The Tools
- Bojo Tool – Part Number: ATH-1 (Purchase Here | Bojo Tool Store)
- Flat Head & Philips Head Screw Driver
- Mini Socket Set
Fitting Information
- You will NOT need a code for your stereo upon removing and re-installing the stereo
- You will need to find an ignition live on this car – I found one under the glove box within the wiring loom of the fuse box (orange wire)
Stereo Fitting
- Fascia (Single Din): Autoleads (FP-#-##-#)
- Wiring Harness: Autoleads (PC-2-81-4)
Hands Free Fitting
- Sound On Top: Autoleads (SOT-085)
The Steps
First using your Bojo tool, remove the top plastic trim (this sometimes holds a speaker depending what options were requested when purchased) – Removing this will reveal 4 torx screws which will need to be removed.
Next you will need to remove the gear stick surround – be careful when removing this as there are wires connected to the under side, for the switches. This will then reveal two bolts holding the lower fascia in place. These will need to be undone.
