I’ll Pick Venice Again and Again. Here’s Why
I’ll never forget Venice. There’s still so much of the world to see, but I don’t think anything will touch the feeling this city gave me.
You know when you feel the history of a place just coursing through you? That’s what I felt in Venice. Looking around you would think you’ve gone back in time.
It feels like you’re in a Renaissance painting. In some ways you are. The influence cities like Venice had over these great artists is immense. It’s no surprise some of the most famous painters and sculptors on Earth took residence here.
Venice isn’t without its contemporary charm either. It isn’t a snapshot of the 16th century all the time.
The food scene in Venice is impeccable, as it is in the rest of Italy. Italian food is quite possibly the best the world has ever produced. Venice is proud to fight for that designation, and does so with some serious gusto.
If you’re a coffee fan, you’re going to be in paradise. Venice cafes are authentic, the genuine article. It might take you a little while to figure out what is what. Once you’ve shed that Starbucks mentality, you’re going to be loving it.
Venice hotels have an air of class to them you won’t find anywhere else. With a lot of buildings still resembling the Renaissance designs of the city, it’ll feel like you’re staying in a work of art instead of any old hotel. The Italian site Venere is the one with probably the widest options of hotels in Venice.
You won’t be short of things to do in this city. If you’re not the planning type, just go for a walk. You’ll find something to do.
If you are activity focussed, Venice has a number of things to see and do. A tour of the canals is a fun way to spend some time. It’s very relaxing as well.
Places like the Basilica di San Marco and Palazzo Ducale are must-see attractions. There are so many more too. Venice demands an extended stay, or at least another visit if you enjoy yourself.
The markets of Venice are also something to behold. Even if you don’t buy anything, I’d recommend finding a produce market and just taking it all in.
Your sense of smell will never be treated better. The fresh ingredients alone will make you hungry.
If you’re there at the right time, one event not to miss is the Carnival. You will have never seen anything like it before in your entire life. A fantastic, elaborate celebration.
Travelling in Venice is limited to walking or gondola for the most part. It’s nice though. Not having to worry about auto failure is something of a relief.
It also allows exploration at your own pace. Meticulously booking out every moment is not how to enjoy Venice. You need to discover it.
As a city, Venice is astounding. There truly is nowhere else like it in the world.
As an experience, Venice is a revelation. It’ll make you think, and it’ll make you feel. Reflecting on my time in Venice is almost as enjoyable as actually being there.
