Is there anything better than a mountain holiday for an adventure lover? I very much doubt it. The trekking opportunities, the stunning scenery and the active lifestyle are all big pulls. And, there are some incredible places to consider for your next exciting trip away. I’ve pulled together some of the most stunning mountain ranges in the world to give you some ideas, so read on to find out more.
The Pyrenees
I love the Pyrenees – they are beautiful and are perfect for trekkers, skiing enthusiasts, and nature lovers. The Pyrenees stretch from the south-West of France all the way into the northern reaches of Spain. They also take in the tiny principality of Andorra. The Pyrenees are home to many different cultures, including Basques, Catalans and Bearnaise. You’ll need more than just a basic French phrasebook if you want to experience the Pyrenees in all their glory!
The Alps
The Alps are the biggest mountain range in Europe, covering eight different countries. A holiday there could take you skiing in France, magnificent lakes in Austria, and ending up in luxury hotels in Switzerland. You should also check out the Dolomites in Italy, and if you are planning a tour, you could even end up on the sunny beaches of Croatia. It’s the perfect place for an adventurous getaway in any season, and there is so much to do for all the family.
The Andes
Moving out of Europe and across the Atlantic, we have the Andes. Now, don’t expect to conquer this mountain range n a week’s holiday – the Andes are almost 4,500 miles long. They run almost the whole way down the west coast of South America, – the longest range in the world. You can go through seven incredible South American countries while travelling through the Andes. Expect to take trips to Colombia in the north, and all the way down to the tip of Chile in the south.
The Canadian Rockies
The Rockies are, of course, an enormous footprint across the North American continent. But, to see them in all their natural glory, make sure you check out the shale and limestone peaks of the Canadian Rockies. They are home to five different national parks – which goes a long way to show just how huge they are. Perfect for skiing, trekking, hiking and water sports, you have it all on your doorstep with a break in the Canadian Rockies.
The Himalayas
Adventure holidays in the Himalayas are often thought of as spiritual experiences as well as great fun. And. It’s no surprise. They run through various countries in the east, taking in India, Nepal, and Tibet. You will experience a broad range of cultures, and three of the world’s biggest rivers all arise there. I know plenty of people who have returned from the Himalayas as completely different people – think you have the urge to do the same?
