Road trips are great fun and something everyone should do at one point in their lives. There is nothing better than getting to explore the world and see various places on one trip. One minute you can be in a major city like London, then the next you can be travelling down for a few nights in Cornwall – the complete opposite!
Before going on a road trip, there are various things you should do to ensure your car is ready for your breakaway. Checking your tyres and getting a mobile tyre fitter in if they need replacing is essential. You should also check your oil levels, as this can be dangerous to your car if they are too low, as well as ensuring your windscreen fluid is topped up.
To help you prepare for your trip away, below is our guide on three things to check before going on a road trip.
Checking your tyres
The first thing you should do is check your tyres. Make sure they are properly inflated according to your vehicle’s recommended pressure levels. Inspect the tread depth to ensure it’s above the legal minimum (typically 1.6mm) and look for any visible damage, such as cuts, bulges, or uneven wear. Tyres which are damaged or underinflated are potentially dangerous and will cause the car to perform below its normal standards – you should also clean your tyres before your journey.
Checking your oil levels
Another check which you should carry out is checking your oil levels. Make sure they are all at the recommended level, as this will ensure your car performs to its optimum performance. Not only do low oil levels reduce efficiency, but they also put your engine in potential danger, which could cause it to stop working altogether. The best thing to do is take your car down to a garage for them to look over it for you. They can then make any recommendations that may be needed.
Checking your windscreen fluid
Finally, your windscreen fluid. You should be checking this regularly, especially before you go on any long journeys. When it’s too low, it means it won’t be able to spray out any water, which could leave your windows dirty if you are driving and unable to clean them. It’s a quick fix and easy to do, but you can watch YouTube videos if you haven’t done it before. In fact, if you are getting a garage to look at your oil levels, this is the perfect opportunity to ask them to look over your windscreen fluid at the same time.
We hope you have a great trip away and your car is ready for the journey. Where are you planning on going on a road trip to?
