The Volvo C30: A Surprisingly Cool Used Hatchback?

Volvo C30

Are you in the market for a used hatchback? If so, you’ll no doubt stick with common options like the Ford Focus or the Volkswagen Golf. There are plenty of other options too. For instance, if you wanted something Japanese you could go for the Honda Civic.

But, there’s one lesser-known hatchback that you might want to consider. It’s stylish, has plenty of appeal and will be one of the safest cars you’ll ever own. But, the sad truth is that it never gained much ground here in the UK.

The Volvo C30 got built between 2007 and 2012. It was the Swedish marque’s foray into the hatchback world in a while now. So, should you consider buying one? I think you should – and here’s why:

It’s a Volvo

Yes, I know; I am stating the obvious here. But, Volvo are a popular brand for one good reason: they are safe. In fact, you will seldom come across a model that doesn’t score five stars in Euro NCAP crash tests.

You might not know it, but Volvo are automotive innovators. For example, did you know they developed the first mass-produced car that had seat belts?

It’s unique

You can’t go anywhere on Britain’s streets without coming across the “usual” hatchbacks. The Volvo C30 is quite a rare and unique site in the UK. Of course, that’s not to say they are rare; there’s a few thousand still knocking about.

What I mean is that it’s unique in that you don’t often see a Volvo hatchback on the road. You usually see saloons, estates or SUVs instead.

It’s well-built

Another reason to buy the baby Volvo is the build quality. As you’d expect from the Swedish car maker, the C30 is well-built and sturdy. You don’t have to worry about bits of plastic breaking off inside your car.

Nor do you need to concern yourself with major defects under the bonnet. If you want a reliable hatchback that’ll last a long time, the Volvo C30 is it.

Trim levels and options are plentiful

Another reason to buy the Volvo C30 is that you can get them in a plethora of trim levels. In fact, even the basic trim offers a good level of equipment.

My personal favourite is the R-Design trim. As standard, it comes with cruise control, front fog lights and an attractive body kit. 17-inch wheels finish off the exterior.

When you search for used cars at Carco Group or any other dealer, look out for the R-Design Volvo C30. I guarantee you’ll want to buy one there and then!

Plenty of engine choices

Aside from trim options, you can also choose the engine that best meets your needs. Volvo has several petrol and diesel units in the C30.

For instance, those with a need for speed will want a C30 with the T5 turbo engine. While those that do long distances on a regular basis may prefer the 1.6 diesel. That’s because it offers an impressive 72 mpg.
